Assignment 3 Concept
I tried to distill the concepts from assignments one and two which is about escaping from the growing objects and apply to my final movie. Because it is a time based visualization, the growing movement is strongly related to time, it is therefore chosen to be my main theme. In order to create an urban environment, Hong Kong is used as an reference. The first part of the video is showcasing the growing of the city and the disappearing of the skyline. The urge of searching a open space and the need of fresh air is revealed. Eventually, a revolutionary tower is proposed breaking from the boring grid system and enabling the new circulation systems as well as a new platform for the joyful sky.

Assignment 2
Growing Vine

Assignment 3 Introduction
After the two assignments, the concepts developed from ‘fence’ to living organic vine where the architectural elements are shaped with the language such as path and wave which imitates the nature. After all, a strong directional movement is created emerging from the ground pointing to the sky like a stylized stem. The surface of it is just like a boundary which comes with entrance at the base and exit at the top or vice versa connecting the building.
For the modeling techniques, to simulate the wavy natural curvilinearity, NURBS are used extensively with modifier such as ‘twist’ and ‘FFD’. Moreover, ‘path deform’ is applied to the vine shaping the building which allows easier control of the movement. To define the boundary(façade), boolean operations take place to create insets and break down the massive piece of it.

Assignment 2 Narrative
To carry on the concepts developed in assignment one about the seeking of the exit through time, I would love to take my major fence element, a growing organic plant like structure to the second assignment where the exit or the path would be the building itself. Through a sequence of form finding processes, the linear, organic, wavy and growing characteristics are inherited and revealed in the architectural form. Eventually a tower like structure is generated, originated from the ground. Following the path with the welcoming entrance on the ground level, it will lead you to the sky like a vine.

Narrative
As long as a fence exists, it implies there is as well as an exit. 'Fence' could be solid, liquid, organism or even shapeless. When time is changing, the definition of fence and the boundary follows. In the video exercise, I want to explore this interchanging relationship through the journey of finding the 'exit'.
